Card Information

Your Post Office Travel Money Card (TMC) is a sterling cash card designed to use when on holiday and can be used anywhere where Visa Electron is accepted which includes any ATM displaying the Visa sign worldwide.

We recommend that you buy a currency card in the official local currency of where you are going as it will be easy for you to calculate how much you are spending a day and are a lot safer than carrying cash. Just withdraw from any ATM as you need it, cutting down the risk of losing or your money getting stolen.

Consider alternatives to cash. You'll always need some cash on your travels, but for greater peace of mind you can also use the Post Office Travel Money Card (TMC). Simply load the card with up to £2,500 and then use it at any cashpoint (fee applies), shop or restaurant that accepts VISA Electron. Unlike cash, if your card's lost or stolen you can cancel the card and order a replacement 24 hours a day.   Also as the card isn't linked to your bank account, it reduces the risk of fraud.

If you got your foreign currency at the Post Office and you are not travelling again you can sell back leftover notes without paying any commission at any Post Office branch by showing your receipt, so keep it in a safe place.

  • Buy it back at the same rate that you bought it for
  • Not charged any commission
  • Also buy back the Travellers Cheques that you purchased from them
