Visa Electron may be phased out in 2010* With news that the Visa Electron may be phased out in 2010*, Travel Money Cards is informing consumers that use Visa Electons when overseas to shop around for the best Sterling prepaid card as an alternative payment method for cheap flights.
Andrew Hamilton, Head of Marketing for ICE said: "Following Ryanair's decision to stop taking Visa Electron payments next year, both easyJet and Aer Lingus have said their acceptance of Visa Electron is under review.
It's also being suggested that Visa Electron may be phased out completely. The problem for travellers is that there are quite a number of prepaid cards on the market and for those less familiar with this concept, it could prove pretty expensive depending on how the card is used.
There are several Travellers Cash cards that are free to obtain and all travel money cards have no monthly fees. With a prepaid MasterCard, you simply load the Travellers Cash card with funds and use it as a charge free payment method for flights."
As well as Sterling (GBP cards), there are also several other currency cards available in US Dollars (USD) and Euros (EUR) and RAND cards are new in.
All MasterCard currency cards are accepted at over 28 million ATMs, shops and restaurants in over 120 countries worldwide. Carrying the MasterCard brand, the currency card is accepted wherever travellers see the logo displayed.
